Leadership Academy for Researchers
The Leadership Academy for Researchers is a flagship pilot programme aimed at cultivating a new generation of visionary leaders in science. Designed as a long-term educational platform, the academy empowers researchers to shape the Czech research landscape from the bottom up through world-class leadership development. The pilot basic module will be launched within the LASER-PRO project.
Who’s Behind the Academy?
The programme is jointly organised by the STAR Research and Innovation Cluster and the HiLASE Centre, in partnership with CZEXPATS in Science. While STAR and HiLASE oversee the programme’s structure and delivery, CZEXPATS contributes first-hand experience from researchers who have trained and worked abroad, bringing international best practices directly into the Czech ecosystem.
Programme Structure
The Leadership Academy combines core training with a flexible, hybrid delivery model to ensure accessibility and impact. Participants will complete three modules, available in English either online or in-person, and benefit from a wide array of elective workshops, training sessions, and networking events.
CORE TOPICS
Institutional Leadership (linked to Strategic Leadership)
Leadership in science goes beyond managing labs – it’s about shaping the institutions themselves. This module explores governance, funding, and strategy within research organisations.
Personal Leadership (Self-Awareness – Me as Individual Leader)
This multi-part module focuses on self-awareness, team leadership, and strategic thinking.
Team Leadership
Communication strategies, conflict resolution, motivation, inclusivity, and feedback culture.
Practical Skills
Grant writing, science communication, time management, and ethical leadership. Master the tools every scientific leader needs.
To introduce the topic of leadership, we are organizing a kick-off event titled “Leadership Matters: Shaping the Future of Research Institutions”, which will take place on 15 September 2025 at BIOCEV, Czech Republic.
