CASSINI Space Camp Czechia 2025 at HiLASE: 30 Students Immersed in Lasers, Photonics and Space

In August 2025, the HiLASE Centre in Dolní Břežany proudly hosted 30 secondary-school students from across Europe as part of the CASSINI Space Camp Czechia 2025, organised by the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA) under the European Commission, together with the local organiser Education42morrow, z.s. This unique nine-day programme gave participants the chance to dive into hands-on science, team challenges, and expert-led workshops in the fields of space technology, photonics, and satellite applications.

During the HiLASE and ELI Beamlines day, students explored the world of high-power lasers and their applications in both industry and space research. The programme included:

  • Guided tours of HiLASE and ELI Beamlines labs
  • Hands-on workshops in the new HiLASE EduLab and with the high-energy Bivoj laser
  • Networking over business lunch, where scientists, engineers, and startup representatives shared insights and one-minute pitches
  • Open discussions on research and career opportunities in photonics and space

The day was officially opened by Tomáš Mocek, Head of the HiLASE Centre, who invited students to consider their next steps through the HiLASE Talent Academy and internship programmes.

HiLASE researchers Yoann Levy, Miroslava Flimelová, Jan Brajer and Radek Pobořil together with Illia Zymak (ELI Beamlines) engaged with students throughout the day, showing how laser technologies are transforming industry and enabling new frontiers in space.

This event forms part of our long-term LASER-PRO mission: to inspire young talent, connect them with cutting-edge research environments, and help them navigate future careers in science and technology.

Experiences like CASSINI show how curiosity turns into capability.
